Abstract

Cervical cancer is currently considered a major public health problem, especially as it is the third most prevalent cancer in women. Considering the severity of this pathology, the aim of the present study was to investigate the care profile for cervical cancer screening, correlating laboratory work with SISCOLO's collection report. The study has a retrospective, descriptive, exploratory and quantitative nature, with data collected from internal reports of cytopathological records of the laboratory and the annual report of SISCOLO in Barra do Garças, Mato Grosso. It was evident that the municipality collected and analyzed about 65% of cytopathological material from the total population of women. There was no significant amount of unsatisfactory sample (0.5%), and most samples were satisfactory for analysis. 0.8% of the low grade intraepithelial lesion, 0.5% of the high grade intraepithelial lesion and 0.01% of adenocarcinoma in situ persisted. It is concluded that the Municipality is unable to meet the target for cervical cancer screening recommended by the Ministry of Health, evidencing a low rate of material collection and low prevalence of intraepithelial lesions precursor of cervical cancer. Thus, more effective and incisive actions should be performed with a view to publicizing the importance of preventive examination as well as methods of disease control and prophylaxis among women.
